Still Ugly
Project type
Tangible Typography
Date
December 2024
Description
For this typography project, I was tasked with creating tangible typography that conveyed a meaningful message. I chose to approach the concept with a provocative and thought-provoking visual. Using a Barbie doll, I drew plastic surgery lines on it, dismembered the doll, and arranged the pieces into a pile. I then smeared lipstick on the doll’s face and onto the backdrop to spell out the phrase "Still Ugly." The piece reflects the societal pressures placed on women and the unrealistic beauty standards they are often held to. The message explores the idea that no matter how much a woman changes or conforms to external expectations, she may still be judged or labeled negatively, particularly by men. Through this project, I sought to challenge perceptions of beauty and highlight the harsh realities many women face.
